While the median home size in the U.S. is 2,135 square feet, a size suitable for most families, check out the ten largest homes in America:

10.  Beverly House in Los Angeles, California, is a 50,000 square foot house, which once belonged to William Randolph Hearst.

9.    Montagel Way Mansion in Birmingham, Alabama, is also a 50,000 square feet home shaped like a guitar.

8.    Longaberger Eschman Meadows in Nashport, Ohio, is a 55,000 square feet house where the CEO of Longaberger Baskets lives.

When completed in approximately 2015, it will have nine kitchens, 30 bathrooms, two movie theaters, a baseball field, and a bowling alley just to name some of the features.

Again, for most families the largest home really needed is between 2,000-3,000 square feet.  Anything more just cost a lot of money to maintain areas that are never used!
