While the median home size in the U.S. is 2,135 square feet, a size suitable for most families, check out the ten largest homes in America:
10. Beverly House in Los Angeles, California, is a 50,000 square foot house, which once belonged to William Randolph Hearst.
9. Montagel Way Mansion in Birmingham, Alabama, is also a 50,000 square feet home shaped like a guitar.
8. Longaberger Eschman Meadows in Nashport, Ohio, is a 55,000 square feet house where the CEO of Longaberger Baskets lives.
7. The Spelling Mansion, in Holmby Hills in Los Angeles, California, is a 123 room house with a total of 57,000 square feet.
6. Maison De L’amitie in Palm Beach, Florida, is a 60,000 square feet home once owned by Donald Trump. In addition to diamond and gold fixtures it also boasts a 50-car garage.
5. Xanadu 2.0 in Medina, Washington, is Bill Gates’ 66,000 square foot mansion which houses a 2,500 square feet gym.
4. Rennert Mansion in Sagaponack, New York, is 66,400 square feet. Junk bond legend Ira Rennert’s mansion is said to have between 21 and 29 rooms
3. Pensmore in Christian County, Missouri, is a sprawling 72,000 square feet mansion belonging to business executive Steve Huff. The 13-bedroom house is energy efficient and after its ready later this year, it will be strong enough to withstand even a tornado.
2. Tomiyasu Lane Estate in Las Vegas, Nevada, is the second biggest home at 73,000 square feet. Picked up by Casino mogul Phil Ruffin, it was purchased from the Sultan of Brunei for around $24.9 million in 2011.
And ... drum roll please ... the largest home in America is…

1. Versailles, in Windermere, Florida, a 90,000 square foot home currently being built by David Siegel, owner of Westgate Resorts. When completed in approximately 2015, it will have nine kitchens, 30 bathrooms, two movie theaters, a baseball field, and a bowling alley just to name some of the features.
Again, for most families the largest home really needed is between 2,000-3,000 square feet. Anything more just cost a lot of money to maintain areas that are never used!

Hi Jay & Michelle,
I had an open house at a large listing and got the comment, "I wouldn't want to clean this much house." It was no where near the size of these.
Dan: Can you imagine the heating bill of a 50,000 square foot mansion?
Michelle and Jay, We used to say "Every thing's bigger in Texas." I guess that's not true when it comes to mega-homes.
